The People

The Province of Guanacaste is the land of
the Sabanero, or Costa Rican cowboy. Living along side these cattle ranchers, descendants of the Chorotega Indians still thrive here, evidenced by the beautiful hand made pottery famous to the region. Not officially a part of Costa Rica until 1858, this province still retains a distinct flavor.

Bullfighting from Spain has made its way here, with one telling exception, the bulls are never harmed. The Guanacastecan people have a deep sense of pride in the land of which they are a part, in their national heritage, and in themselves. This is a land where smiles are plentiful, and kindness is a national standard. A land where you are greeted with a warm “Pura Vida!” at every turn.
